SML is a manufacturing company specialising in plastics processing machinery and a global market and technology leader in manufacturing high-end extrusion lines.

Products manufactured on machinery from SML range from packaging films to textile yarns and from medical applications to laminates and compounds. Moreover, SML manfactures machines for the production of special films for optical applications and separator films for batteries.

Product groups and innovations:

SML’s product range is synonymous with technical excellence, high quality standards and carefully designed, all-in-one solutions, both in the form of custom-built machines as well as preconfigured, standardised systems:

• Cast film lines – for the production of flexible, ultra-thin films with thicknesses between 8 and 250μm
• Sheet lines – for the production of semi-rigid sheet with thicknesses between 150μm and 2,500μm as well as plates up to 6mm
• Coating and laminating lines – for the production of flexible compound structures, breathable composites and laminates with aluminium and paper
• Winders – to wind and unwind film and composites
• Austrofil® multifilament spinning lines – for the production of technical yarns and carpet yarns

This excellence is evident in products such as our top-end extrusion lines for the production of stretch film, mono-axially oriented film (MDO) and the complete range of thermoforming sheet. SML’s Technology Centre at the headquarters in Austria is a central research and development hub for the creation of new solutions with input from our partners.

SML can guarantee ideal customer support on-site, with branch offices in China, Malaysia, Russia, and the United States, along with a network of over 50 representatives. SML’s entire engineering team, all its R&D facilities, assembling workstops and its administrative operations are based at the company headquarters in Redlham, Upper Austria. SML can trace its roots back to 1967 and has been an independent private company since 1995. SML is distinctive for its consistent growth based on technical innovation, highly skilled staff and stable shareholder structures.
